Arboriculture Co-op Placement

We are now hiring for a summer co-op placement who will support the Lead Arborist and Ground Support on the production crew to perform tree pruning, removals, etc. The individual will be assessed for tree climbing knowledge and competency and will be involved in tree work aloft when requirements are met. The individual will have the opportunity to learn from ISA Certified and Board Certified Master Arborists and Tree Risk Assessor. We are looking for an extremely keen and safety conscious person to fill this position who has a passion for the Arboriculture Industry and wants to learn as much as possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Able to show up on time with a professional appearance, a positive attitude and ready to work hard
  • Carry out all duties safely and efficiently while following company standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with clients, crew, and management
  • Help create and maintain a positive and productive team environment and team culture
  • Ability to take direction and positive critique from supervisors and management
  • Ascend and perform aerial operations to safely and efficiently remove trees of all sizes, while following industry standards and company SOP (after passing tree climbing competency testing)
  • Perform rigging techniques to safely dismantle trees with various targets, following industry standards and company SOP
  • Perform proper pruning in trees of all sizes, for clearance, structure, and safety, following industry standards and company SOP (after passing tree climbing competency testing)
  • Operate and maintain chainsaws, chippers, stumpers and other equipment as per company SOP
  • Perform worksite cleanup as per company SOP
  • Complete all necessary paperwork (timesheets, project logs, project risk assessment forms) accurately and on time

Qualifications:

  • Currently receiving arboriculture training from a recognized college or university
  • Chainsaw training or certification
  • Tree climbing experience
  • Experience using a chainsaw aloft
  • Chipper operation experience
  • Tree pruning experience using a chainsaw, secateurs, pole saw and pruners
  • Experience utilizing various rigging techniques
  • First Aid/CPR an asset
  • Class G license and clean driver abstract
  • Knowledge of industry rules and regulations

Job Type: 40+/- hours/week, Summer Placement (May 1- August 31). Work hours are approximately Mon-Thursday 7:30 am – 4:30 pm and Friday 7:30 am – 2:30 pm although may vary due to weather.

Starting Wage: Based on experience and qualifications.


Ground Support

We are now hiring a Groundsperson who will work with the Assistant Tree Climber and Lead Arborist on the production crew to perform tree pruning, removals, etc. This individual is a key team member and relied upon to complete a project safely and efficiently.

We are looking for an extremely keen and safety conscious person to fill this position who has an interest in the Arboriculture Industry and wants to learn as much as possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Able to show up on time with a professional appearance, a positive attitude and ready to work hard
  • Capable of performing physically demanding manual labour in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Carry out all duties safely and efficiently while following company standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with clients, co-workers, and management
  • Help create and maintain a positive and productive team environment and culture
  • Able to take direction and positive critique from supervisors and management
  • Perform ground support operations such as, but not limited to, rigging, cutting, brush management, chipping as per company SOP
  • Perform rigging techniques to lower wood material from heights as per company SOP
  • Operate and maintain chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders and other equipment as per company SOP
  • Perform worksite cleanup as per company SOP
  • Complete all necessary paperwork (timesheets, project logs, project risk assessment forms) accurately and on time

Recommended Qualifications:

  • At least 1-year experience working in an outdoor labour position
  • Chainsaw training or certification (an asset)
  • Chipper experience (an asset)
  • First Aid/CPR (an asset)
  • Class G license with a clean driver abstract
  • Knowledge of industry rules and regulations (an asset)

Job Type: This position runs from approximately April 1 – December 24th, 2020. Work hours are approximately Mon-Thursday 7:30 am – 4:30 pm and Friday 7:30 am – 2:30 pm although may vary due to weather.
